Wyrd Con V, Interactive Storytelling Convention, Announces Special Guests and Events in Launch of KickStarter on Christmas Day

Popular Storytelling, Gaming, Costuming, and LARP Convention comes of age as it moves to Los Angeles.

Wyrd Con V is an interactive storytelling convention to be held at the Westin Los Angeles Airport in May of 2014. Wyrd Con convention funding will be launched on the popular crowd funding website Kickstarter with a goal of funding the convention. Wyrd Con V will be the biggest, most well-attended Wyrd Con yet.

Wyrd Con V will host several high profile speakers including:

-Jim Butcher (#1 NY Times Bestselling Author – Dresden Files, Codex Alera, Cinder Spires),

-Todd McCaffrey (NY Times Bestselling Author – The One Tree of Luna, City of Angels, Steam Walker, Dragonriders of Pern, Dragonwriter),

-Christie Golden (7x NY Times Bestselling Author – World of Warcraft: War Crimes, Ravenloft, StarCraft, Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi, Blackbeard: The Lost Journal, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag),

Wyrd Con V will also host special events, including the Order of Umbra, a Storytelling Contest, Dinners, Dance Parties, Masters Classes, Crafting and Costume Contests, and Starship Valkyrie.

Wyrd Con is geeky in a different way because its focus is modern storytelling, specifically a cross-over from simple roleplaying and LARPing to trans-media, interactive entertainment, augmented reality, and theme parks. This year, there are three themes. Theme one is ‘What is,’ which is designed to give patrons a tour of different toolsets used at Wyrd Con. Theme two is ‘Mixing Toolsets,’ referring to using multiple tools (LARP, ARG) together for one storytelling experience. The final theme is ‘Creation,’ which is designed to focus on creating concepts needed to use the various toolsets described above. These themes are meant to ensure a truly interactive storytelling experience.

Wyrd Con offers rewards for KickStarter contributors. The Steward Badge includes a bundle of extras, and Wyrd Con V will also have many other add-ons for contributors. Further, certain KickStarter contributors will be rewarded with private meals with some of these celebrities.

DFC Intelligence Forecasts PlayStation 4 to Be Leading Game System for This Generation

Launch Was the Largest Ever for a Console System

A new brief from DFC Intelligence notes that the 2.1 million units sold in its first two weeks makes the Sony PlayStation 4 the biggest launch ever for a console game system. In a series of reports over the past few months, DFC Intelligence has forecasted that the PlayStation 4 would be the number one console game system of this new generation. The successful launch of the PS4 is an indication that Sony is already establishing an early leadership position.

“The most successful console systems of all time in terms of total hardware unit sales were the Sony PlayStation 2 and the Nintendo Wii, says DFC analyst David Cole. “The PS2 and Wii also had the record for largest initial launch sales but the PlayStation 4 launch surpassed both those systems.”
